Bomb scare at Chennai railway station, security blanket after alert
Chennai: Intensive check of passengers' belongings and entire premises of Chennai Central Railway Station was carried out after the police control room received an alert, indicating that a bomb might go off.
"A person alerted the control room stating that he overheard an alleged conversation indicating the presence of explosive materials either in the station or in trains and that it could explode this evening," a police official said, but declined to elaborate.
The checks were being carried out by several teams of the Government Railway and City police, besides that of the Railway Protection Force, the official said, adding that nothing suspicious has been found so far.
On May 1, two low intensity bombs exploded within a five-minute span in two coaches of the Guwahati-Bangalore Express at Chennai central railway station, killing a woman techie and injuring 14 others.
