Army may help clean up Ganga
New Delhi: In a major initiative, the Indian Army has proposed the raising of an ecological task force headed by top ex-servicemen to clean up of the river Ganga.
The proposal has been submitted to the Centre. As per the Army’s proposal, the task force can be headed by a retired Lieutenant General who could be a former head of the engineering corps with four retired Major-Generals reporting to him. They, will supervise the work of other ex-servicemen recruited for the project.
The Army has proposed that the task force be raised on the lines of the Territorial Army and that it will be active in all the districts through which the Ganga flows.
