Tight security measures meet with approval at Vibgyor school
Bengaluru: As Vibgyor High opened its gates on Monday, it resembled a fortress with around a dozen women and plainclothes officers of the Varthur and HAL police prowling around it and its compound wall raised in sections to prevent easy access to intruders.
DCP T. D. Pawar himself visited the school at around 12 noon to reassure the children and their parents about their safety. While women staff were posted on all the floors, as many as 112 CCTV camera have been installed in the school grounds. Another 196 cameras will be fixed in corridors and classes to satisfy the parents who had demanded 308 CCTV cameras in all at the school.
Block Education Officer, S M Ramesh, who reviewed the security measures in place, said a background check had been done on the school staff and provided to the police. “There is tight security and all the parents’ demands have been addressed by the school management. Over a 100 women floor vigilance officers have been appointed in the school to ensure the safety of the children. They are being stationed in places like the canteen, washrooms and corridors on all the floors,” he explained.
Members of the temporary parents’ task force were also present in the school and were in touch with the management, government and the police to ensure that all safety guidelines were followed.
"The additional safety measures implemented by the school look good to me. The school staff too appeared more alert today,” said a parent.
Finally, I got to attend school today. But I got tired of hiding my face in class to escape the CCTV cameras. The school looks very different with more staff and security personnel around. — a student of grade VIII.
My daughter was happy when I dropped her off at school today. I thank all the parents, teachers and other volunteers who made it happen. She really wanted the school to reopen. I am sure together we can make this school a much better place, let's keep working at it. - Premachandran Makkal K, a parent
