RSS cautions BJP leaders not to take Lok Sabha victory for granted

Yeddyurappa and Ananth Kumar were told to set an agenda to take party forward

Bengaluru: Has the BJP state unit become complacent after its spectacular performance in the Lok Sabha polls when it won 17 of the 28 seats at stake in Karnataka?

RSS leaders, who are worried over the lack of activity in the state unit after the polls, held a closed door meeting with BJP bigwigs, former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar, recently.

The meeting was held on Sunday last at Keshva Krupa, the RSS headquarters in which the two top leaders and party organizing secretary Santhosh were present.

Another invitee, BJP state unit president Pralhad Joshi skipped the meeting.

Sources said the RSS senior functionaries expressed their displeasure over the state unit’s performance and highlighted the fact that it has not been able to conduct any major organizational activity nor has it taken up any major campaign against the state government.

Sources said Mr Yeddyurappa and Mr Ananth Kumar were told to set the agenda to take forward party organizational activities in the coming days. However party sources claimed that it was a routine meeting with RSS senior functionaries following the elevation of Amit Shah as party national president with the RSS taking stock of the situation in state units. Even at the national level, the RSS has held a meeting with the central leadership.

Party leaders also discussed the state executive meeting scheduled to be held at Mysore in August, with RSS leaders.
