The release is in view of Aadi Perukku festival celebrated on banks of Cauvery

Chennai: CM J. Jayalalithaa on Sunday directed the authorities to release 6,000 cusecs of water in addition to 800 cusecs being released for drinking water schemes from the Mettur dam from July 27 to August 3.
The release is in view of Aadi Perukku, a religious festival celebrated on the banks of the Cauvery, on August 3. Ms Jayalalithaa also wished that the release of water would enthuse people to celebrate the annual Aadi Perukku festival. The Mettur dam has been receiving copious inflow over the past two weeks.
