Hyderabad: 83 bikers arrested for speed biking in Hyderbad
Mostly college students are in custody for performing bike stunts at Gandipet Road
Hyderabad: The Narsingi police on Sunday took 83 youngsters, mostly college students, into custody for rash driving and performing bike stunts at Gandipet Road, on the banks of Osman Sagar. The cops also seized 32 bikes.
The bikers were riding dangerously and doing stunts like “wheelies’ and “stoppies’ in front of their cheering friends, said Narsingi police officials.
“There were underage riders also. The detained bikers are between 12 to 22 years old,” said Narsingi police inspector T. Anand Reddy. According to the cops, the youngsters reached the spot after word spread among the students about the bike race at Gandipet.

“This was not a organised racing performance. They heard about it from their friends and came to the place with their bikes,” said Mr Reddy.
The police called the parents of the bikers and warned them not to allow their sons to perform such dangerous stunts. “We are also conducting an elaborated counseling session for the youth and their parents on Monday,” said the inspector.
The police is yet to book a case against the bikers, who were let off on Sunday evening. The inspector informed that after counselling they would decide which case should be booked in this issue.
Expert bikers from the city, meanwhile, suggested that the state government should take the initiative to organise bike sports in the city so that interested youngsters can channelise their energy into those events.
“If not Grand Prix style racing, the government can certainly afford to encourage events like Supermoto, Supercross, Hare Scramble and Motocross on the city’s outskirts. It can also attract tourists,” said Mr Junaid Akram, a techie and off-road biking expert from Madhapur.
