Kuppam (Chittoor district): A 14-year-old Class IX student residing at Dandikuppam ST hostel in Santhipuram of Kuppam constituency was beaten up mercilessly by the hostel warden Raja Ramesh with a stick for refusing to go to bed at around 9 pm in the evening on Saturday.
The boy suffered serious bruises on his back and legs on account of the thrashing by the warden.
The incident came to light after the boy called up his mother K. Munilakshmamma who reached the hostel along with her relatives and the villagers of Manendra in Ramakuppam mandal.
The mother and locals who confronted the warden resorted to a sit-in protest in front of the ST hostel demanding action against the hostel warden Raja Ramesh.
Meanwhile, Dhananjaya Rao, deputy director of social welfare, ordered an inquiry into the episode and rushed assistant social welfare officer Ms Lalitha Kumari to the hostel.
Ms Lalitha Kumari who reached the hostel, made enquiries about the incident with the boy, other inmates of the hostel as well as the warden and recorded their versions.
She will submit her report to the deputy director on Monday.
Mr Dhanajaya Rao, speaking to this newspaper, said that action would be initiated against the official concerned based on the contents of the report to be submitted by him by assistant social welfare officer on Monday.
Meanwhile, the boy, who was shifted to the local area hospital for treatment, was discharged after first-aid and was taken to home by his parents on Sunday evening.
