Yuva Music Festival: Movement of music

AMEC organises a cultural event in Kolkata to find fresh talents

Kolkata: M for music. Y for youth. And when both come together to forge a resolute bond, then fireworks erupt out of ether. Spurring powerful energy and unsurmountable enthusiasm on stage, there’s as if no stopping a bunch of stomping and swinging livewires in the house!

Aptly called Yuva Music Festival (YMF), the first edition of such a one-of-its-kind musical extravaganza is currently being held in Kolkata.

Having already headlined the performance of noted French Jazz violinist Guilliame Blance at the curtain raiser concert, more good news in store is that talented American pianist Jennifer Heemstra will close the ongoing event on August 5.

Spearheading a soiree on the city’s cultural calendar, Surendranath Majumder of Academy for Musical Excellence said: “The idea germinated almost 13 years ago when I honestly felt a need to contribute to the society in whatever capacity I could.” A talented pianist in his own right, Majumder frequently dabbles in western classical music and is a follower of its rich discipline of varied genres.

“Music is not only meant for fun but for character development as well. That’s precisely the role a teacher can significantly play to motivate his/her students to mature into generous human beings,” says the philanthropist. Also recognising latent talents among special children and taking initiatives to spread music in hospitals and old-age homes, Majumder is keen to change the world’s atmosphere with the melody of music.

Claiming to be the most diversified music festival for kids as young as six years to mature adults of 35 years, over 500 students are partaking in this carnival ranging from the most popular schools to underprivileged sections of the society.
