13 killed in typhoon Matmo in China
More than 2.5 million people are affected by typhoon in China
Beijing: At least 13 people have been killed and more than 2.5 million affected as typhoon Matmo swept through eight provinces of China.
With this, the death toll in the two typhoons Matmo and Rammasun has reached 77.
About 2,89,000 residents have been relocated and some 37,000 are in urgent need of basic living supplies, as more than eight provinces of the country including Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong and Guangdong have been severely hit, according to the statement.
Matmo, the 10th typhoon to affect China this year, has destroyed homes and crops and caused direct economic losses worth 3.37 billion yuan (about US$ 547 million), it said.
Matmo made landfall in southeast China's Fujian Province on Wednesday and has brought strong winds and heavy downpours in the affected areas.
Toll for typhoon Rammasun has alone gone up to 62. Nine deaths were reported in east China's Jiangxi Province and four were reported in south China's Guangdong Province, the ministry said in a statement.
