Live Commonwealth Games 2014 Day 4: Shreyasi Singh wins silver in women's Double Trap
Mumbai: After a productive day 3, India will continue the medal hunt in varied events such as shooting, badminton, table tennis and weightlifting.
Indian shooter Shreyasi Singh on Sunday clinched the silver medal in women's double trap event at the 20th Commonwealth Games here, swelling the shooting team's overall tally to an impressive seven medals.
The 22-year-old Delhi girl shot 76 in the finals to ensure the second-best podium finish at the Barry Buddon Shooting Range.
Another Indian shooter in the fray, Varsha Varman had to be contend with a fifth-place finish, despite entering the finals at third position.
In the Double Trap men's event, Asab Mohd won a bronze medal.
Weightlifter Omkar Otari won a bronze in the 69kg event.
Indian swimmer Sandeep Sejwal on Sunday qualified for the semifinals of the 50m men's breaststroke event after finishing third in his heat at the Tollcross Swimming Centre.
Sejwal finished third in Heat 3 with a timing of 28.17 seconds behind Mark Tully of Scotland (27.22s) and Kiwi Glenn Snyders (27.45s) to secure his place in the semifinals to be held later in the day.
Meanwhile, India's Sajan Prakash finished a disappointing sixth in Heat 5 of men's 100m butterfly event. Prakash looked ordinary and could only manage a timing of 55.58s in his heat.
However, in the table tennis event, Indian paddlers lost to Australia 1-3, who won bronze in the best of five game.
Late on Saturday, the Indian team reached the seminfinal in the Badminton mixed team event.
PV Sindhu suffered a three-game loss against Michelle Li in the women's singles but the Indian badminton team still managed to advance to the semifinals of the mixed team championship after defeating Canada 3-1 at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Silver medallists at the 2010 Delhi Games, India were leading 2-0 after the first two matches, courtesy the winning start by mixed doubles combo of Kidambi Srikanth and Jwala Gutta and men's singles player Parupalli Kashyap.
However, Hong Kong-born Michelle then stunned Sindhu 15-21 22-20 21-17 in an hour-long women's singles match to reduce the margin.
But men's doubles pair of Pranaav Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar made sure there are no more hiccups as they notched up a 21-15 19-21 21-13 win over Adrian Liu and Derrick Ng in a 49-minute match. Earlier, Srikanth and Jwala put India 1-0 ahead with a 21-19 17-21 21-18 win over Toby Ng and Alex Bruce in the mixed doubles match.
Ace shuttler Parupalli Kashyap then thrashed Andrew D'Souza 21-11 21-9 in a men's singles match that last 28 minutes to make it 2-0 in India's favour.
