Commonwealth Games 2014: Showdown time as Usain Bolt arrives
The sprint king will be part of men’s 4x100 meter relay team
Glasgow: The 20th edition of the Commonwealth Games got a massive boost with undisputed sprint king Usain Bolt arriving for Jamaican relay duty in Glasgow on Saturday. Bolt’s arrival in Glasgow was sure to add a huge scattering of stardust to an event that saw another athletics giant, Mohammad Farah of England, pull out on the opening day due to illness.
Mike Hooper, chief executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation, said the Jamaican’s arrival was “fantastic”.
He said: “We’ve got quality athletes that want to come here and want to be part of this and it’s great that he’s going to be here.” Bolt will compete in the men’s 4x100m relay and his presence will strengthen Jamaica’s bid to claim supremacy in the athletics events. Like the last edition, Kenya, Australia , England and Jamaica have sent strong athletics teams this time as well. Kenya have even included world record holder 800m runner David Rudisha in their team.
