Hyderabad: Justice Ramesh Ranganathan of the Hyderabad High Court has suspended a notification proposing to hold elections to Anaparthi gram panchayat in East Godavari district of AP.
The judge was dealing with a petition by K. Ramesh Reddy, challenging the notification issued by the State Election Commission on July 14, 2014, to hold the elections.
Sarasani Satyam Reddy, senior counsel appearing for the petitioner brought to the notice of the court that the state government has issued a GO on September 29, 2012, by upgrading Anaparthi as the Nagar Panchayat and the GO was challenged before this court, which passed an interim order suspending the GO. He said that the petition was later withdrawn by the petitioner and, as a consequence of withdrawal of the plea.
The earlier notifications issued by the government by declaring Anaparthi as Nagar Panchayat is now in existence.
