Nativity, options clause upsets doctors in Telangana
Hyderabad: Doctors claim that they are the worst sufferers of the Kamalnathan Committee report as the dual clause of nativity and option to stay back does not give them their due status in the new state of Telangana.
Their contention is that the recruitment policy has not been followed properly by the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh government due to which all the senior positions of professors and heads of departments are being held by the people from Andhra Pradesh.
Medical Council of India member and professor at Nilofur Hospital Dr Ramesh Reddy said, “What is the point in having a clause with an option to stay back? How can it be exercised? If a person is not from Telangana he can exercise this option but what about those who are waiting for promotion? They will not be given any preference. These people will occupy the space for the next decade which is not fair.”
Dr Nagender of Osmania General Hospital said, “If the recruitment policy was followed in its true spirit then there would have been fair promotions and doctors from Telangana region too would have got a chance. But that has not happened. Our fight was to allow the people of our state to get the chance which has not been given to them. How can two contradicting clauses be placed and justice done to those who have been fighting this injustice for so long?”
According to rough estimates more than 1,000 doctors in and around Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district would have to go if the nativity clause is followed. A senior doctor from Andhra Pradesh explained, "There will be huge shortage of doctors in the city if they look only at nativity. The government is trying to balance it, those who have been practicing here for the last 15 years can't be told to pack up and leave. It would be unfair
to them."
Objections against the clauses can be filed until August 5th after which the committee will announce its final decision.
