Kochi bus workers strike from Aug 1
The bus operators have failed in increasing the wages despite the hike in fares
Kochi: The workers of private bus services in Kochi city will start an indefinite strike from August 1 demanding wage hike. The Private Bus Workers Coordination Committee has called for the strike as the bus operators have failed in increasing the wages despite the hike in fares.
The Coordination Committee Chairman KK Kalesan said that the wages for drivers, conductors and cleaners working in buses in the city are Rs 577, 420 and 400 respectively, while, in the neighbouring places it ranges from Rs 800-605. The committee comprised of 10 unions of bus workers in the city.
