Center study to set up steel plant at Bayyaram is on
Hyderabad: The Central government has decided to study the feasibility of setting up a steel plant in the iron ore rich Bayyaram, in Khammam district, of Telangana State. The Centre has constituted a committee to visit the mines and submit a report to the government at the earliest.
“The Central government is showing keen interest in the establishment of the steel plant. A committee has been constituted. It will visit Bayyaram, study the feasibility of setting up of the steel plant and submit report to the Centre. We have been saying that Bayyaram is the ideal spot for establishing a mega steel plant,” B. Vinod Kumar, TRS MP, told this newspaper.
A team had already inspected the iron ore availability in the district and the feasible place to set up the Rs 30,000 crore steel plants. Bayyaram has vast quantity of iron ore.
The then YSR government had entrusted the mining lease to Rakshana Steels, which kicked up a furore and it was subsequently cancelled by successive government.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who promised jobs to thousands of youth, is vigorously pursuing with the Centre for establishment of the mega steel plant in Bayyaram, in view of the availability of quality iron ore, coal and other resources.
