Festive season: Caps galore this Ramzan
Hyderabad: This year’s Ramzan shopping special in the Old City market has about 10 new varieties of festive caps from various states and countries. There is something for everyone out there in various colours and designs with prices ranging from Rs 15 to Rs 15,000.
The most expensive of them all is the khara khuri made of goat and sheep skin from Kashmir. Omani and Rumi caps are in much demand. These caps come from countries like Turkey, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Qatar, Indonesia, Belgium, Pakistan and Russia.
While a few are named after countries others like Rumi, are called the pride of Hyderabad. The others caps are Omani, Afghani, Qureshia, Khara-Khuri (Kashmiri), Barkati, Afreen, Bukhaara and Haqqani besides the old Indian katora, plain velvet, Mughal Gonda and Rampuri. The Rampuri caps used to be worn by both Hindus and Muslims 40-50 years ago, and are now back in fashion with a few alterations.
“We have many varieties in all price ranges. This year’s special is the one from Madine Shareef that our MP wears. We have also got the same kind of cap. There should be plenty of sales this week as the festival is nearing, said the owner of Mohammed Cap Mart. Usually sales goes up by about 70 per cent in the month of Ramzan when compared to normal times, but this season has seen less activity as the reopening of schools coincided with the festive month leaving less scope for festival shopping.
“This year we have a lot of variety. A few new ones from different places and old ones with added attractions. But compared to last year the business this season is a little less,” said Mir Taj Alam of Bismillah Cap Mart, Moghulpura.
