Rs 6000 crore projects for Ramanathapuram

A detailed project report will be prepared and sent to the Centre within this year: CM

Chennai: A National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) will be established in the industrially backward Ramanathapuram district at an outlay of Rs 6,525 crore, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa informed the assembly on Thursday.

Ms Jayalalithaa who announced a slew of projects to industrialise the state and promote employment opportunities, besides attracting investments, said the Tidco would set up the NIMZ at Ramanathapuram and Thiruvadanai taluks in Ramanathapuram districts. “A detailed project report for this project will be prepared and sent to the Centre within this year and work on the project will be start soon,” she said.

Making a suo motu statement in the assembly, Ms Jayalalithaa said that to promote socio-economic development in Ramanathapuram district, a 50 MW solar-powered desalination plant would also be established on 500-acre government land at Valinokkam saltpan in Ramanathapuram district at a total cost of Rs 1,500 crore. The desalination plant would be of 15 million litres per day capacity. The Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation will take steps to produce salt, she added.

An electronics park would be set up in Krishnagiri district at an outlay of Rs 920 crore jointly by Tidco and GMR Infrastructure on 527 acres of land. “The Centre has granted in-principle clearance for the project, which is expected to attract an investment of around Rs 7,000 crore and provide direct and indirect employment to around 40,000 people,” the CM said.

A TICEL bio-Park spread over 10 acres would be set up in Coimbatore for Rs 55 crore. A park for medical equipment manufacturers would be built by Tidco and HLL Life Care Ltd on 330 acres in Chengalpet at a cost of Rs 130 crore. Of 100 industries that would come up here, 30 would be allotted to big and medium industries. Over 3,000 persons would be benefited directly and over 5,000 indirectly, Jayalalithaa said.

The cement production capacity of TNPL, which also produces cement, would be increased by 300 tonnes per day to 900 TPD at an outlay of Rs 30 crore, the CM said.
