Hackers steal salaries of IAF officials

Salary accounts of about 40 Indian Air Force (IAF) officers were taken out

New Delhi: Lakhs of rupees has been fraudulently withdrawn by unknown persons through misuse and suspected cloning of gold debit cards from salary accounts of about 40 Indian Air Force (IAF) officers in a nationalised bank.

The IAF on Thursday registered an FIR with the Delhi Police after the officers, posted at various locations in the country were duped.

Sources said there are indications that several Army officers may have also been duped and this is being looked into. The nationalised bank has now ordered an enquiry. The Delhi Police has begun investigations into the fraud.

The officers who were duped received an alert on their mobile phones that the transaction had taken place in the Canadian city of Montreal.

“The gold debit cards that have been misused appear to have been cloned. The bank has filed police complaints and has blocked transactions through these cards,” bank sources said. However they denied that the bank’s data-base had been hacked into.
