Nunnery Rape Case: Police In Dark
Bengaluru: The police still seem to be groping in the dark in the Hennur rape case, in which a 15-year-old inmate of a nunnery was raped. The incident happened on July 16 and the case was registered on July 17, but even after a week the police were clueless about the accused.
DCP East Division, N. Sathish Kumar told Deccan Chronicle that the investigations were still underway and they were devising different approaches to the investigations. As the girl had come to the city recently from Andhra Pradesh, her family members, relatives and peer groups were being questioned.
Police sources claimed there was confusion initially when the victim reported the incident to the police and while her friend gave an altogether different version about the incident in her statement. The fact that they have to rely on statement of minors has made their task more challenging. There were even chances of a U-turn in this case where the victim can be held accountable for false-reporting, said sources from the police, who did not want to be named.
While sections of the media claimed that the police have learnt that the handwritings on the victim’s leg about the threatening message looks like that of the victim herself, and the ink used in the messages matched with that of her pen found in the victim’s vanity bag.
While the victim claims that she heard a calling bell, the other inmates did not hear it, according to the police. There are many other details recorded by the victim which does not match with the others’ version. But DCP N. Sathish Kumar told the investigation details such as the above shared with media are not from confirmed sources. And he kept reiterating that the investigations are underway, we are leaving no stones unturned.
