Rajesh Khanna's 'haunted' Carter Road home sold to businessman
Mumbai: Veteran actor Rajesh Khanna’s bungalow, Vardan Aashirwad located on Carter Road in suburban Mumbai that was up for sale, after a public notice was issued has finally found a new owner. The buyer is a businessman, who goes by the name Shashi Shetty, Mid-day reported.
A source was quoted saying, “What we have heard is that the property has gone for a mere Rs 95 crore because of its reputation as haunted, and also because the area of the plot is too small to construct a high- rise.”
The bungalow was previously owned by actor Rajendra Kumar and was called Aashirwad. Khanna bought the house for Rs. 3.5 lakhs and renamed it Vardan Aashirwad as Kumar had constructed another bungalow that went by the same name.

The property was transferred to Khanna’s daughters Twinkle and Rinke in 2012 after his death. Khanna’s live-in partner Anita Advani has been fighting a court case to claim her share in the property.
In a recent interview she said, “I’m fighting a court case against the family only for one thing. Kaka wanted to turn his bungalow into a museum. I had put my heart and soul to renovate the bungalow. Everything from the carpets to the walls were in a shabby, tattered and torn condition.”
The house was going to be converted into a museum, but from the looks of things that plan will not go forward.
