Nvidia launches powerful Shield gaming tablet

Nvidia has unveiled a powerful Tegra K1-based tablet aimed for gaming performance

Nvidia, a highly renowned manufacturer of gaming products and graphics cards for PC and laptops, has unveiled one of the most powerful tablets, especially meant for gaming enthusiasts. The tablet sports an 8-inch full HD display with a resolution of 19200 x 1200 pixels and front facing stereo speakers and a bass reflex port for additional sound improvement.

Powering the tablet, under the hood, is a powerful Tegra K1 192 core Kepler graphics processor unit. The Shield features a 2.2GHz ARM Cortex A15 processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Connectivity options include LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS and GLONASS. The front and rear camera are both equipped with 5MP sensors. Bundled along with the tablet is the DirectStylus 2, but you would have to buy the wireless gaming controller separately.

The Nvidia Shield tablet runs on Android KitKat and is powered using 19.75Wh battery. It weighs 390 grams and is 9.2mm thick.

The Nvidia Shield will be available in two variants—a 32GB with Wi-Fi and LTE and a 16GB with Wi-Fi only and are priced at $399 (Approx Rs 24,000) and $299 (Approx Rs 18,000) respectively. The tablets are up for pre-order on the Nvidia website.
