Telangana CM announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia; Narenda Modi condoles deaths

Hyderabad/New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced a Rs five lakh ex-gratia each to the families of those killed in Masayipet bus-train accident in Medak district today, and ordered an inquiry.

He also said the entire medical expenditure of the injured students would be borne by the state government. Rao said he was "highly upset" by the accident and expressed deep shock and offered condolences to the families of the children.

The Chief Minister conveyed his displeasure and anger over the accident to South Central Railway General Manager P K Srivastava.

Srivastava assured the Chief Minister that gates would be arranged at all level crossings within a week's time.

Railways announce ex-gratia for accident victims

Railway Ministry announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of school children and others who died in the train-bus collision in Telangana.

Making a statement in both Houses of Parliament, Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda said 18 people, including school children and bus driver, were killed and 18 others suffered injuries when a train rammed into a school bus at an unmanned railway crossing in Masayipet village in Telangana's Medak district.

"On humanitarian grounds, an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of the kin of deceased, Rs one lakh to the grievously injured and Rs 20,000 to persons who sustained simple injury has been announced," Gowda said.

When MPs from Telengana said the ex-gratia announced was too less, Gowda said "this is the usual procedure and this is an ex-gratia. Compensation and other things will be taken care of by the railways."

The Minister said medical relief was immediately arranged to the injured persons by rushing the accident relief medical train to site and also about 10 road ambulances.

PM condoles loss of lives in train-bus collision in Telangana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the train-bus collision in Medak district of Telangana this morning.

He prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident, a PMO statement said.

Thirteen people, including 12 school children, were killed and 15 other children seriously injured when a train rammed into their bus at an unmanned railway crossing in Masayipet village of Telangana's Medak district.

President condoles loss of lives in Telangana accident

President Pranab Mukherjee also expressed his sadness over the accident in which 13 persons including 12 children were killed when a passenger train hit a school bus at an unmanned railway crossing in Telangana.

In his message to state Governor E S L Narasimhan, the President said he was "extremely saddened to learn about the accident" that led to loss of lives.

"I understand relief operations are underway. I am sure that the State Government and other agencies are taking necessary steps to provide urgent medical assistance to the injured and all possible aid to the bereaved families," the President said and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to families of the deceased.
