Operations hit at Wakf Board office

Many things have come to standstill since post of special officer is vacant

Hyderabad: Many things at the Wakf Board have come to a standstill since the post of the special officer is vacant. The special officer's term ended more than a month ago but nobody has been appointed yet.

Mr Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal's (IPS) term ended on June 18 and on June 20 the government appointed Jalaluddin Akber IFS as special officer. However, due to loopholes in the government order he has not taken charge till date.

“The post of special officer can't be kept vacant for a long time as approval of the special officer is must for taking any important decision. As the post is vacant the performance of the board has been badly hit,” said Hamed Hussain Jaffery, director Andhra Pradesh State Minorities Finance Corporation.

“Proceedings like transfer of funds, undertaking new projects, and land related issues have come to a halt as both the officers have not been appointed yet,” said an official from Wakf.

Till a few days ago all affairs of the Wakf Board were carried out under the supervision of the chief executive officer although he is not authorised to take decisions on important matters. Two days ago the chief executive officer was also transferred, and this post too remains vacant as of now.

Although it is time for people to get things ready to go for the Haj, the Haj committee has not been formed yet. Only the principal secretary is available to look after the Board's affairs. However, he cannot take important decisions in monetary or developmental matters.
