I will marry, but only after Arya, Simbu: Jai
Jai, talks about marriage and 'Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah', which hits the screens today
Chennai: Actor Jai, who has already proved his mettle in films like Chennai 600028, Subramaniapuram, and his recent blockbuster, Raja Rani, is currently busy scorching the race track in a Schumacher avatar. As Jai’s next film, Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah, directed by Anis, is releasing today (July 24), the actor talks to DC about the film, his 12 year journey in cinema, and his passion for racing from childhood.
“It’s a beautiful, emotional love story between a boy and girl from different communities, and it will be liked by most of the girls out there,” says Jai. Ask him about the reason for the delay in the film’s release, he says, “It is not easy to direct a film which has two religious, cultural backdrops. We had to take care of every little detail as it must not hurt anyone’s sentiments nor stir any controversy. Another reason for the delay is that we have to wait for a few religious festivals, and shoot those celebrations as they were happening. The film also has elements of comedy in it. I am sporting two different looks in the film, and we took time to make the song picturisation more vibrant and beautiful.”
Though Jai’s growth as an actor has been progressive, he has retained his passion for car racing. He wanted to be a racer from the age of 12 and has been practicing hard ever since. “Initially, my parents did not want me to get into racing as they thought it was a risky profession. I believe that even cinema is a risky profession. To be a good actor, you have to take some risks, performing stunts and so on. So every job has its own element of risk, and I want both cinema and racing in my life. I have struggled to come to this position in both cinema and racing, so I won’t let go of either so easily,” he says. “During my college days, we used to hold unofficial races in the city, but now, I am happy that I am into it professionally.”
Racing and acting apart, Jai has another inborn talent which he has been silent about all these days. Born into a family of musically oriented people, he has studied it professionally and has been composing a few songs with his friends over the years. “I have plans to compose for films,” he says, “but not any time soon as I am still working on it. Few years ago, I planned to release an album of mine, but my brothers, Dhanush and Simbu, released the Kolaveri song, and Love Anthem respectively, which made me stay away from releasing my album as fans could have thought that I was releasing it just because others did,” he laughs. “I don’t want that to happen. So I will take some more time to release it.”
Ask Jai about his marriage plans, he says, “I am not ready for it now at all. I want my dearest brothers, Arya, Simbu, and Vishal to get hitched first. Only then will I give it a thought.” Jai is also shooting for his next film, Valiyavan, which is directed by Saravanan of Engeyum Eppodhum fame. “I am happy to be teaming up with Saravanan again. It will be a complete action film, with a beautiful love story. My chemistry with Andrea will definitely be spoken about,” he adds.
