‘I haven’t made enough money’
Mumbai: One of Hindi cinema’s veteran actors, Om Puri has had his fair share of international exposure too. After having worked in more than 24 international films, Puri is looking forward to his next French outing, 100 Foot Journey produced by Hollywood biggies Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey. Moreover, unlike his previous international projects, the actor will play the lead role in this one.
Says the actor, “It is an honour to be part of a film that has such renowned names associated with it. To play the lead role on a Hollywood film adds to my credibility as an actor.”
We asked the actor how he feels about his personal life making more headlines than his international ventures. “I don’t think my personal life should interest anyone. My life is going fine. I’ve been married twice and am looking forward to the third,” he says in jest, before letting out a laugh. That’s when we realise that his wit and humour is a far cry from the sombre roles he plays on the big screen.
Does he plan to turn to production like most of his contemporaries? “I’ve not been a commercial actor, hence I haven’t made enough money to produce a film. I don’t know if have the skill set to become a director either. I can however hire a talented assistant and take credit for the work; it’s a trend that’s been around for years now. But I don’t think I’ll do that. I’m going to stick to what I am best at, acting. I don't want to cheat the audience.”
