Tools in Apple’s operating system iOS could leave gadgets open for surveillance
Apple Inc is planning additional steps to keep hackers out of user accounts in the face of the recent celebrity photo scandal, but denied that lack of security allowed intruders to post nude photographs of celebrities on the Internet
New York: A data forensics expert has said that various tools in Apple’s operating system iOS could leave the gadgets open for surveillance, according to a report. Propublica.org said that Jonathan Zdziarski concluded that the vast majority of iThing owners are unaware of lax data protection.
He reported that 600 million iOS devices, particularly those running the most recent version 7, have data discovery tools that are separate from those used by Apple for standard backup. These include a file-relay service that can snoop out data, bypassing the Back-up Encryption service.
This data includes the address book, photos, voicemail, audio files, iCloud, FB and Twitter accounts, screenshots, keystrokes, among others.
