Need 30 tmc feet water for capital of Andhra Pradesh, says Minister Dr P Narayana

'It was only opinion of government that new capital be located in Vijayawada-Guntur'

Hyderabad: AP’s municipal administration and urban development minister Dr P. Narayana made it clear that it was only an opinion of the government that the new capital be located in the Vijayawada-Guntur region.

Dr Narayana and state government’s representative in Delhi K. Ram Mohan Rao informed the Sivaramakrishnan Committee that drinking water could be supplied through gravity to the state capital from Krishna river, and all the central government had to do was allocate 30 tmc feet of water from the river.

Speaking to this correspondent over phone from New Delhi, Dr Narayana said that they were looking for about 20,000 to 25,000 acres for developing the capital city. “Of the 25,000 acres, one-third of the land would go for roads, parks and other mandatory open spaces. Another one-third has to be given to the people in the form of developed plots in return for land acquired from them and the state government would be left with 8,000 to 10,000 acres to build the Assembly, Council, High Court, Secretariat, Directorates, Commissionerates etc.,” he said, adding that building could also be started with just 5,000 acres.

Dr Narayana told the Sivaramakrishnan Committee that Rs 5,000 crore would be initially required to build office buildings, civic amenities and other social infrastructure in capital city.
