India gave befitting reply to Pakistan firing, says Arun Jaitley

Defence minister added that the government is also ready to provide compensation to the people in villages located along the LoC

New Delhi: Union Defence minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said the Indian army has been giving befitting replies to ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

“Indian Army has given befitting reply to Pakistan’s repeated attempts of ceasefire violations along the LoC. India will keep retaliating to such violations,” Mr Jaitley told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

The minister was reacting to the death of an Indian soldier, who was killed after a serious ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Replying to extra questions during Question Hour in Parliament, the defence minister added that the government is also ready to provide compensation to the people in villages located along the LoC for the damage caused to homes, during firing from across the border.

“The Government will also provide financial assistance to the farmers, who are unable to make use of their land for agriculture following cross-border firing,” Mr Jaitley said.
