Hyderabad: The Telangana government is planning to take up regeneration of projects for the old city to give life to the “dead zones” while keeping their tradition and rich Hyderabadi culture intact.
The projects envisage road-widening, clearing encroachments, infrastructure, terminals (five terminals like Imblibun) and facelift to heritage structures.
GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said, “Every global city abroad has two sides. The old and the new city, The master plan for old city area will be planned in such a manner that it does not affect its heritage. "
"The main infrastructure trunk will be developed. The GHMC plans to identify 150 km of the municipal area (major connectivity, regional ring roads that accommodates heavy traffic) and develop each km at a cost of Rs 10 crore."
"Permission for ducting will only be granted between October to March so that the road is not disturbed throughout the year. The old city will no longer have to depend new city for work, educational institutions, entertainment."
"Professor Srinivas Chary, urban development director at ASCI said planning should be done by engaging citizens. “Participatory planning followed in Africa and Latin America proved successful,” he said.
