New Delhi: Fresh trouble seems in store for former communications minister Dayanidhi Maran, with attorney-general Mukul Rohatgi saying “there is enough evidence to file a chargesheet against the DMK leader and his brother Kalanidhi Maran in the Aircel-Maxis deal case.”
Sources said the country’s top law officer, in his opinion to the law ministry, said the CBI can file a chargesheet in the case against the DMK leader “on the basis of available evidence.”
This comes after CBI director Ranjit Sinha had earlier ruled out chargesheeting Mr Maran and others. CBI sources, however, said it was yet to get the AG’s opinion, and that it will go ahead with whatever his advice was.
Sources said the matter had gone up to the attorney-general as there was a difference of opinion between the CBI director and the probe team on chargesheeting the Marans. The probe team felt there was enough proof pointing to the Marans, but the CBI chief felt differently. The CBI had in 2011 registered a case against Dayanidhi Maran in Aircel-Maxis deal.
