Andhra Pradesh, Telangana Speakers to resolve disputes

Residential complex for MLAs approved by GHMC in Hyderguda

Hyderabad: Presiding officers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Assemblies, along with their legislative affairs ministers, will be meeting shortly to resolve the disputes pertaining to accommodation in the existing Assembly and Council buildings.

Both the secretaries of legislatures have allotted the same accommodations to political parties and leaders from the respective states, which has led to a lot of confusion. In order to avert showdowns by the leaders while taking possession of the rooms, both the Speakers have agreed to meet again and resolve the contentious issues. Ministers of legislature will also join the meeting along with the secretaries.

Telangana Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary conveyed this to Telangana legislative affairs minister Harish Rao on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, it has also been decided to collect maintenance charges, including power and water bills, from the AP government for the shared office accommodations in the Assembly and Council buildings.

During a meeting held by Mr Chary on Tuesday morning, attended by R&B officials and town planning officials of the GHMC, it was agreed to go ahead with the construction of two blocks of a 12-storied residential complex for the legislators in the Old MLA Quarters at Hyderguda.

Though the original plan was approved by the previous government, construction only up to the sixth floor had been completed till a year ago.

The town planning wing of GHMC had objected to constructing the 12-storied building in an area restricted to only 1+5 as per the zonal regulation rules.

The existing Basheerbagh-Hyderguda Road is only 80 feet wide and as such, permission for a high-rise building could not be sanctioned.

However, in Tuesday’s meeting, Town Planning officials agreed to accord permission for a 12-Storied building after noticing that another existing road from Narayanaguda-Hyderguda, which was 100 feet wide, and agreed to expand a stretch by a few meters up to the Old MLA Quarters.
