Tollywood actor Rambha and her brother booked for abuse of sister-in-law
Hyderabad: The Banjara Hills police has booked a case against actor Rambha, her brother P. Srinivas Rao and her parents Venkateswara Rao and Usharani for alleged dowry harassment.
Rambha’s sister-in-law P. Pallavi, 37, had lodged a complaint in a local court against Mr Rao and his family members alleging that they had been harassing her mentally and physically for the last few years. Following the order from third metropolitan magistrate, Nampally, Banjara Hills police took up the case, officials said.
Sources said that Rambha has been living with her family in Toronto, Canada, for a few years now. So police is examining how she got implicated in the case. “Major part of the alleged harassment took place in Chennai. We have to examine the allegations raised against Rambha,” said a senior police official.
Ms Pallavi has been living separately from her husband for the last few years due to discord in marital life. Citing harassment, she left her husband’s house in Chennai and came back to her parents’ place in Banjara Hills.
In the complaint, Pallavi alleged that her husband and family had taken her money and sought additional dowry. “She alleged that they, including Rambha, harassed her mentally and physically for dowry. After she came to Hyderabad, they called her over phone and continued harassment,” said West Zone DCP Mr V. Satyanarayana.
Pallavi also listed several witnesses who could testify against Rambha and her parents. Officials said that Pallavi had approached Banjara Hills police with the same complaint. “She had lodged a complaint in February seeking her husband’s arrest. But he was abroad and the case is still under investigation," said the DCP.
Ms Pallavi lives with her kids. There is another court case going on in Chennai regarding the custody of the kids.
