EA must stay true to the game
Hyderabad: To fill the void left by the completion of one of the best World Cups in living memory, EA Sports released their latest trailer for FIFA 15 highlighting their much talked about player and crowd emotions.
The trailer clearly makes it apparent that players on the pitch will react dynamically and realistically to what their teammates and opponents are doing to and around them. If you miss one too many opportunities, your teammates will be visibly frustrated with you.
Put in too many strong tackles on the same player and he will be up in your face. Moreover, crowd chants and reactions have been touched upon and greatly improved, with crowds reacting more realistically to the game as well as having club specific chants, cheers and jeers.
It is evident that EA has left no stone unturned in trying to get that coveted cinematic feel that has eluded them thus far, and maybe with this iteration of Fifa they actually might achieve it. However, being an ardent FIFA fan, I have to say that there is one specific area that EA has to overhaul, gameplay.
Over the last three iterations, FIFA gameplay has become painfully stagnant with the same tricks being used by players to cheese their way to victory. An unhealthy reliance on pace, strength, over head through balls and crosses, have removed all traces of realism from the game, something EA says it strives to bring to every game.
It is imperative, that EA tap into all the power next gen has to offer and come up with a mechanic that glorifies and pays homage to the beautiful game, and not make players resort to game breaking tricks to frustrate opponents and get their goals.
The addition of 10 men celebrations, crowd realism, and player emotions is great for immersion, however, it is high time that EA revamp the gameplay mechanics in order to keep it true to the sport it is trying to simulate and to give fans the football game that we have been waiting for since 2011, a football simulator.
