Sania Mirza, who was appointed the first brand ambassador of the new state of Telangana on Tuesday, says that she is simply “honoured and humbled”. The tennis star, who will promote the state’s interest in India and abroad, adds, “I am extremely thankful to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for reposing his trust in me.”
On Monday, Sania had tweeted in anticipation of the event: “Big exciting news tomm..can’t wait to share it with u all..stay tuned,” she wrote. “I went to meet the Chief Minister on Monday as I had been away in Europe playing tennis on the circuit. It was a courtesy call as I had not had the privilege of meeting him at the time of his assuming office. I was thrilled to be offered this wonderful opportunity and of course, immediately accepted.”
Sania, who was handed a letter of appointment and a cheque of Rs 1 crore, adds, “I will be working under the guidance of the ministry to showcase our wonderful city of Hyderabad and the state of Telangana to the world.”
