Lucknow: Hours before leaving Raj Bhawan in Lucknow, UP Governor Aziz Qureshi delivered another rape shocker on Monday when he said that even Gods can’t prevent rape incidents.
Mr Qureshi, who will cease to be the Governor of Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday when Ram Naik takes over, said on Monday that even the entire police and Army cannot check rape incidents.
He said that there should be no politics over such incidents and media should not grill the government on such issues. Mr Qureshi agreed that the law and order situation in the state was dismal but added that rape incidents could not be stopped or prevented.
“Law and order situation in the state is a matter of concern though rapes can’t be stopped, the police must act swiftly,” he said.
State BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak criticised Mr Qureshi for his remarks and said that he should be aware of his constitutional obligations and dignity of office before making such insensitive remarks.
