Hyderabad: N. Prasad, 66, a retired RTC conductor suffered a massive stroke a month ago and lapsed into a coma. He underwent surgery for a large clot in his brain at Care Hospital, Nampally.
V. Ramu, a relative, said, “We spent '12 lakh over the next few days. Some was met by his insurance policy but the rest came from savings. Family members pooled in money as well. Doctors have said the treatment is working and he will improve.”
Mr Prasad has now been brought home. His family is waiting for him to get back to at least doing normal activities.
Mr Ramu said, “Currently, there is only eye and hand movements. He points at people and we understand that he wants to talk to them but he can’t speak.” The issue of euthanasia does not interest them.
His wife Laxmi said, “Accepting that he must die because he can’t move is a wrong way of looking at things. We have hope and know that he will recover.”
His family has already started cutting down on expenses as they feel that their resources will now be required for his treatment and he will recover soon.
