Bengaluru rape case: Thousands protest six year old’s rape
Bengaluru: Enough is enough. That was the message being conveyed loud and clear by the milling throng of thousands who had gathered on Saturday morning seeking justice for the six-year-old first standard Vibgyor High student.
Over 5,000 protesters took the city by storm, yelling anti-rape slogans, flashing placards and shouting demands for punishment for the predators.
The crime committed against a six-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted on July 2 has sparked nationwide outrage, fuelled by the inaction of the city police, who still haven’t brought the guilty to book.
A peaceful march started from Kundanahalli gate, Vibgyor School to HAL police station grounds at 10 am. The protesters who squatted outside the police station refused to move until the police commissioner agreed to their demands and guaranteed that those accountable for the crime would be apprehended soon.
The parents warned the police that if their demands were not met, they would block the city roads. It was under immense public pressure, that the city police commissioner, was forced to come to the HAL police ground to address the protesters.
Meanwhile, three people were arrested on Saturday by the special team which is probing the case.
The accused have been identified as Mohammed Ishaq Sawood, 32, an event manager; Sheik Shoaib Mohammed, 27, a mobile shop owner, and Mohammed Hafeez, 32, who owns a car battery shop.
