Siddharth is a director’s actor
Hyderabad: Siddharth, who is known to have a keen understanding of the craft of filmmaking and has a wonderful sense of script, is all set to shed his chocolate boy image in his upcoming films.
His next Tamil film, Jigardhanda, directed by Karthik Subbaraj of Pizza fame is ready for release on July 25.
“It is likely to be one of the best films in Indian cinema,” says Siddharth. “It’s a musical gangster film set in the backdrop of Madurai. I am not the hero in Jigardhanda as Karthik has shaped the characters in the film making sure to give them all equal importance. The audience is sure to like Bobby Simha’s character as the villain.”
He will not discuss his own role “as it has a brilliant twist. That’s why we played it in the trailer, and made sure that the audience could not predict what my role was. I am happy about the response to the teaser.”
Speaking of his chocolate boy image, he is clear that he does not want to maintain a particular image indefinitely.
“I am a director’s boy and I always want to be a part of good scripts. For instance, all my upcoming films, Jigardhanda, Kaaviya Thalaivan and the Lucia remake, don’t have me in the chocolate boy image at all. I must actually thank all my directors as they believed in me. Even in my last film, Udhayam NH4, I played a very different role.”
Siddharth has had his share of controversies, generated by his outspokenness and comments on social networking sites. “I am like this in real life,” he says. “And nowadays, everyone knows what’s happening in just a few minutes because of the social networking sites. These sites have brought fans closer to us, which is actually good. Expressing one’s opinion on the web is just like hanging out with one’s close buddies at a tea shop. It gives me happiness,” says Siddharth.
The actor is awaiting the release of Kaaviya Thalaivan, which is directed by Vasanthabalan, with music composed by A.R. Rahman.
The audio of the film will be released on July 31. It’s a period film set in Madurai which will have Siddharth portray the life of a stage actor. Prithviraj has also been cast in the film.
