No Indians aboard shot down Malaysian plane

Government has asked all Indian airlines not to overfly Ukraine

New Delhi: Terming as “unfortunate” the loss of lives in the Malaysian airline tragedy, Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju today said there was no Indian on board the plane. He also said that the government has already asked all Indian airlines not to overfly Ukraine.

“It is unfortunate that this incident has happened. As far as our information. No Indians were on the flight. No Indian citizen was on board,” Mr Raju said.

He also said that there was no threat to Air India One, the aircraft that flew PM Narendra Modi back from Germany over the airspace where the Malaysian Airl-ines plane was shot down on Thursday. “I think that is speculation. There was no danger to our PM’s aircraft. No problem,” Mr Raju said.

The Centre said that random screening of passengers at the main gates of the terminals will be increased. The blowing up of the Malaysian aircraft has sent shock waves through security agencies since Indian aircraft travel over sensitive flight paths including
over Pakistan and Afghanistan where militants are thriving.
