Civic body panel stops demolition

Committee requested GHMC commissioner to regularise unauthorised building

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Standing Committee on Thursday unanimously resolved to stop demolitions of unauthorised constructions immediately.

The Standing Committee asked officials to initiate action against the concerned officers and assistant city planner during whose time the constructions were undertaken, before demolishing the structures.

The committee further requested the GHMC commissioner to seek government permission to regularise unauthorised buildings.

It may be noted that the Standing Committee, comprising 15 corporators, unanimously passed a resolution to stop demolition and will now have to put forth the proposal before the general body meeting of corporators, MLAs and MPs who in turn will have to pass a resolution and submit it to the state government.

The state government, however, does have the power to set aside or not consider the GHMC resolution.
