Six-year-old raped in school in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Parents of students of the Vibgyor School, where a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped, staged a massive protest on Thursday demanding that the school management ensure the safety of their children.
The girl was sent for medical examination and the Forensic Science Laboratory report is awaited. No arrests have been made so far in the incident which has further enraged the parents.
They tried to force their way into the school building and were stopped by the police. One of the main doors to the school was broken by the angry parents who smashed window panes too.
Chairman of school Rustumjee Kerawala said, “If anyone is found guilty of rape, let him be hanged. I am with the aggrieved parents. My humble apologies for this situation, the safety of children is paramount.”
He also said the school management is co-operating with the investigating authorities. “We have handed over the CCTV footage of the classroom to the investigation officer.”
The protest is likely to continue on Friday with more parents set to join. The incident has also triggered a flood of responses on social networking sites with outraged citizens demanding action.
“I will join the protest by not sending my child to the school tomorrow as it is not safe,” said Pallavi, a parent.
Meabnwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced in the Legislative Council on Thursday that a fast track court would be set up to try rape cases and an expert committee constituted to guide the government in dealing with such crime.
He also asserted that the government would not buckle under pressure from anyone in taking action against cops accused of dereliction of duty for not registering a case of rape a 22-year-old student.
“We will not hesitate to take action against the inspector if he is found guilty. The state government is firm on taking action,” he said.
