Opportunities seen in cyber threats

Cyber crimes have increased 67% in the recent times

Hyderabad: Telangana IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said that the holes in cyber security in the state could be turned into a huge opportunity, if looked at positively.

The minister called for private-public partnership to tackle the issue of cyber security in the state and invited suggestions from the industry to chart a roadmap for partnership in the area. He said there was a huge lacuna in the availability of cyber warriors.

Citing numbers showing a 67 per cent increase in cases of cyber security breaches, the minister said that this threat could be transformed into a huge opportunity by developing cyber security tools, labs and applications. The minister was speaking at the Cyber Security Conference organised by CII (Confederation of Indian Industries).

According to industry estimates, India will require over 4.7 lakh cyber security professionals by 2015 to protect its IT infrastructure, pointed out the minister. Mr Rama Rao added that information security must be made a part of business strategy.

According to reports, India is one of the most targeted countries in the world when it comes to cyber crime. “According to Symantec’s 2013 Norton Report, by July 2013, sophisticated cyber assaults had cost Indian individuals and companies around $4 billion,” said Telangana CID additional director-general T. Krishna Prasad.
