Supreme Court makes Andhra Pradesh party in EAMCET case filed by Telangana

Counsel submitted that in view of the bifurcation, government was facing a staff crunch
Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Andhra Pradesh state government to implead as a party to a petition by the Telangana government seeking to extend the date of completion of admissions in professional courses to the end of October.
A two-member bench directed the counsel appearing for the Telangana government to serve a copy to the Andhra Pradesh government to enable it to place its stance before the court.
Citing staff crunch as the main reason for being unable to complete the admission process before August 1 — as had been directed by the apex court — the Telangana state had urged the court to extend the time for the completion of the process for admissions for Eamcet 2014.
Earlier, the court had directed the government to complete the process of admissions in Engineering and Medicine courses based on Eamcet by August 1.
The counsel submitted that in view of the bifurcation, the government had been facing a staff crunch, and since cadre allocation had not been done there was a lot of requirement of All India Services officers by the new state. He said that out of an estimated requirement of about 320 IAS, IPS and IFS officers at present, only 70 were working, each of them holding more than two to three subjects.
