Baba Ramdev, 250 students stranded in Gangotri
Lucknow: Yoga guru Ramdev is stuck along with 250 students in Gangotri while Kedarnath yatra has been suspended for three days in view of the MeT department’s warning of heavy rains and frequent blockage of roads.
Ramdev, along with 250 students from Acharyakulam, were on their way to attend a programme in Gangotri, despite an alert.
The police control room in Dehradun said on Wednesday that all students with Ramdev were safe in Gangotri .
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state over the next 48 hours beginning Wednesday.
Reports said heavy rainfall has been lashing Joshimath since Tuesday night, and Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers are on the surge.
The Uttarakhand DGP B.S. Siddhu was quoted as having told reporters that if anything happened to the students, action would be taken against Ramdev as he proceeded ignoring the weather warning.
Last year the state witnessed a disaster when thousands of pilgrims lost their lives after being caught unawares in the deluge.
