East Godavari blast shuts down 70 ONGC wells

ONGC's gas production has come down to a norminal 3.5 lakh cubic metres per day
Rajahmundry: It will take two to five months for the GAIL natural gas pipeline, which was shut down after the Nagaram explosion, to resume operations.
This will cause huge losses to the power, fertiliser, ceramic and steel sectors.
Due to the pipeline being shut down, the ONGC has closed down 70 of its 152 on-land wells in KG basin and its production has come down to a nominal 3.5 lakh cubic metres per day (LCMD) from 31.5 LCMD. Experts fear closure of wells for a longer period may affect the gas production drastically.
GAIL is working on short-term, mid-term and long-term plans to resume the supply of gas. In the short term plan, it will work on two segments and by the month end, 2 MMSCMD (million metric standard cubic metres per day) of gas will be supplied. In the mid-term plan, GAIL is targeting to resume supply of 3 MMSCMD of gas by another month.
