Bill Clinton's visit only temporary glitter
Jaipur: The former US President, Bill Clinton, was in Jaipur on invitation of an NGO to see its mid-day meal operations including the visit to the biggest kitchen in India that feeds 25 lakh school children daily.
But, even as Jabrauli, the village in Maharajganj district in UP is being spruced up to welcome the former US President Bill Clinton, here is a terse reminder to the villagers that memories of the VIP visit may remain with them but the fame and the makeover will be short lived.
Once, the visit is over, the fresh paint on schools and health centers would slowly fade away, the new furniture might be taken away and the army of sanitation workers would never be seen again.
Ask someone in Nayla, on Jaipur outskirts, which attained fame overnight when Clinton visited it when he was the US president in 2000. The thriving milk cooperative, relocated here was the perfect showpiece for Mr Clinton’s visit. “The whole thing was like a film set but once the visit was over the village would be left just as it was,” said a villager.
