Minor raped in Bangalore: School says not responsible for safety of children

Six-year-old raped in school premises; school asked parents to sign weird form

Bangalore: After the gruesome act of a six-year-old girl being raped on school premises in Bangalore by a gym instructor and an unidentified man in the school premises on two separate days, parents reacted furiously demanding action from the management.

However, the Vibgyor High school asked parents to sign a form that says that schools and their staff are not responsible for the safety of students.

Reportedly, many other high-end schools also asked parents to sign the form that says that when their child participates in events organised by the school - including field trips, excursions and camps - the staff or teachers of the school can't be held responsible for "damage to loss of property, sickness or injury from 'whatever source' legal entanglements, loss of life or money..."

Some schools have also been accused of intimidating to expel students whose parents went to the media.

"A six-year-old girl student was allegedly raped by unknown persons at Vibgyor High School under Varthur Police Station limits, which came to light on July 15," Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order-East) K V Sharat Chandra told PTI here.

The girl was sent for medical examination and the Forensic Science Laboratory report is awaited, he said.

Chandra said investigation is underway and there have been no arrests so far. Parents allege that the accused were school staffers, he said.

The school authorities also confirmed that two staff members, suspected of being involved in the case, are being questioned by police.

Enraged over the incident, hundreds of parents swarmed the school demanding answers from the management whom they accused of being "insensitive" and not forthcoming with information, as they suspected involvement of some staffers.

Demanding action against the staffers over their alleged involvement, the irate parents tried to force their way into the building as police tried to pacify them. Window glasses were broken in the melee.
