A free for all arena shooter

Gamers ought to be excited about this project as the current free to play shooter market is dull

Gaming Industry veteran Cliff Bleszinski’s new studio Boss Key has announced its first title is going to be free to play.

After nearly a two-year hiatus from the industry, he came back to start a new Studio Boss Key which has teamed up with Nexon, a Japanese company to bring out the first title. Code Name Project Blue Streak is going to be a Sci-Fi free to play arena shooter (Think Quake, Unreal Tournament etc). Bleszinski said “Creating fun and memorable shooters is in my DNA, and making the move to free-to-play games is all about maximising the potential audience for your title while embracing where the industry is headed.”

Gamers ought to be excited about this upcoming project as the current free to play shooter market is about as dull as a Monday morning. While most F2P shooters like Ghost Recon Phantoms do provide a relatively enjoyable experience, the game is ruined by micro transactions and a community making it hard for newcomers to settle in.

However if Cliff Bleszinski’s past track record is anything to go by, there is little doubt that gamers are in for one hell of a shooter. From his work on the Unreal franchise to the more recent original Gears of War Trilogy, there is little to doubt other than the integration of the F2P model within the game. Many games have been ruined by poorly implemented microtransactions but with a veteran like Cliffy B at the helm, there is hope.
