Night of celebrations in Hyderabad
For the Germans in the city, who are thousands of miles from their country, there was one place on Sunday night where they felt right at home. Despite the odd timings, the Goethe-Zentrum at Hyderabad, stayed open for fans and donned the famous colours — red, black and gold.
The crowd was absolutely thrilled to watch the match with their countrymen and as Germany kept trying to break through the Argentine defense until the second half of extra time, sitting with nervous faces were 150 fans who had gathered.
Also, the Germans were joined by the French, waving flags and with faces painted in the German colours. Once the final whistle blew, those present at the screening say the place simply erupted in celebrations and three lucky fans even got official jerseys as gifts.
German national, Merle Plachta was surprised with the Hyderabadi support for the team. “To experience so much support for the German team in Hyderabad was priceless. All the fans were so up-to-date with results and players of the German team, I was really impressed,” she said. Pubs in the city too saw a mix of Argentina and Germany supporters enjoying the match.
