New Delhi: With terror outfits increasingly using the cyber space for their subversive activities, the central intelligence and security agencies have asked the government to take up the issue with social networking sites asking them to make it mandatory to help security agencies track their Internet Protocol address from which objectionable comments or material has been posted.
Indian intelligence agencies still do not have the technical expertise to track details of postings on social network sites or chatting, which is often used by terror outfits, without assistance from the concerned cyber site.
But, sources said, in most cases these particular sites are not very forthcoming with information and help or often their response is extremely delayed which hampers investigations into crucial cases.
For instance, in the recent incident where a Pune techie Mohsin Sheikh was killed in case of mistaken identity for posting some objectionable pictures on a social networking site, police is yet to ascertain who was the culprit as no help has been given by the concerned social networking site.
Sources said the new BJP-led government is keen that intelligence and security agencies get all possible assistance specially in terror related cases.
Centre will tell networking sites to share details of IP addresses and key servers with intelligence agencies.
